چکیده

We report a concept to increase the dynamic range of capillary driven microfluidics for use in point-of-care diagnostics [1]. The chip uses one-pipetting step of 20 μL of human serum spiked with C-reactive protein (CRP) at 100 ng/mL. A four-fold increase in signal strength is achieved by varying the flow rate in six different reaction chambers.

Hollow-channel paper analytical devices.

We present a microfluidic paper analytical device (μPAD) that relies on flow in hollow channels, rather than through a cellulose network, to transport fluids. The flow rate in hollow channels is 7 times higher than in regular paper channels and can be conveniently controlled from 0 to several mm/s by balancing capillary and pressure forces. More importantly, the pressure of a single drop of liq...

Microfluidics and point-of-care testing.

In many ways, the intrinsic features of microfluidics are a natural fit for a pointof-care (POC) diagnostics device (i.e. a diagnostic test performed near the patient without needing a clinical lab): low consumption of reagents and sample, miniaturization of device, and fast turnaround time for analysis. Thus, it comes as no surprise that much research, since the inception of modern microfluidi...

An integrated CMOS quantitative-polymerase-chain-reaction lab-on-chip for point-of-care diagnostics.

Considerable effort has recently been directed toward the miniaturization of quantitative-polymerase-chain-reaction (qPCR) instrumentation in an effort to reduce both cost and form factor for point-of-care applications. Considerable gains have been made in shrinking the required volumes of PCR reagents, but resultant prototypes retain their bench-top form factor either due to heavy heating plat...

Light-driven Microfluidics towards Solar-powered Point-of-care Diagnostics

Point-of-care diagnostics for resource limited settings is a much-researched application of microfluidics technology due to its great potential. Unfortunately, one of the current limitations is the difficulty in creating tools that are both inexpensive and simple to use but also able to perform complex tasks. Light-governed microfluidic systems are of interest because, in principle, sunlight co...

Cutting edge: A prefilled, ready-to-use electrophoresis based lab-on-a-chip device for monitoring lithium in blood.

We present the Medimate Multireader, the first point-of-care lab on a chip device that is based on capillary electrophoresis. It employs disposable pre-filled microfluidic chips with closed electrode reservoirs and a single sample opening. Several technological innovations allow operation with closed reservoirs, which is essential for reliable point-of-care operation. The chips are inserted int...
